Rocky Mountain Foals 2011

As promised, here are more recent photos of our three Rocky Mountain foals. They are together now with their moms and just beginning to show some curiosity about each other. Moms are protective at first but have gradually been allowing the foals to socialize briefly with one another. Soon they will be racing around  while moms continue to graze but always with a watchful eye. One snort from one of the moms and everyone is on high alert and each foal scampers for their own mom until any sense of "danger" is past. Fun to watch. If you ever want to know what is going on at your farm, just watch your animals-they will "tell" you! Moms and foals are brought into the barn every morning for grooming, handling, and grain with minerals (moms). The foals learn quickly that coming to the barn is a good thing and often plop down in the shavings for a short nap. They obviously feel comfortable in the stalls. I must try to capture some of the routine on video.
