Some hay in the barn
We were able to get about 5 acres of hay (500) bales into the barn on Monday. We still have another 30 acres to go but unfortunately the weather forecast for the next several days is for rain. The hay will have to wait. We have been riding 6-8 horses a day for the past month. I have been riding Prince, Knightly, and Teddy, both in the arena to do ground work and work on gait and headset and on the trail for 5-6 miles. We have seen a fawn, several deer, a partridge, wild turkey, and a groundhog yesterday and today. The horses are not bothered at all. They just accept the wildlife as a part of daily life around here. Even when we were operating the haying equipment they just looked and continued walking calmly. We use a golf cart and Polaris Ranger to lead them in from and back out to the outlying pastures so they get very used to all the equipment. As we ride the perimeter of the hay field a part of it parallels the road. For the past three weeks there has been a steady procession of dump trucks hauling stone to repair the roads in town washed out from our flash flooding. They come by loaded and with their jake brakes burping away, so much so that the horses just ignore them now. Excellent training for them to be exposed to all of that. Hopefully next week will bring warm, sunny weather good for making more hay.
