Busy time of year

Summer is a very busy time of year for us with lots going on here at the farm. Our weather has not been very conducive to making hay with few dry sunny days in a row. I was able to get 21 dry round bales in last week. That represented only a small portion of our hay field. With our weather I didn't dare mow any more. Our precipitation year to date is almost double our normal. The fifth and final run-in shelter of this year was completed this week and skidded out to the pasture. That has been a big project but with our Coverall barn we were able to build them indoors and out of the weather, then skid them out when completed.
Mares and babies are doing well. It is such fun to watch them grow, run, play, and socialize. They are quite friendly and curious and come right up to us in the pasture. They are handled daily and do ground work in the stall with mom present. They are about six weeks of age now.
We have eight other horses which are ridden almost daily. Some to do ground work and work on gait as well as go out on trail rides after finishing their work. I have also been riding Able out on the trail , which he really enjoys. I plan to start our two year-olds next week.
Prince (CGF Absolutely a Prince) and Knightly (CGF Absolutely Debonair) have been sold and will be departing for their new homes in Colorado on Monday. They have been a wonderful part of our family and we will all miss them.
Summer is always a busy time with family as our children and grandchildren come to visit and enjoy the farm and ride the horses. The children can sure pack a lot of energy into a day! Fun to observe and experience, not to mention entertaining. Provides an exposure to a very different lifestyle for them here in a rural setting with no cell and wi-fi access. Amazing how life goes on without it!
